Sleeping Newborn

The sleeping newborn above belongs to my friends, Mike and Kira. He is no longer a newborn. In fact, a more current picture is posted in a separate entry below (the picture of the adorable baby with two labs). I drew this picture as a gift to Mike and Kira for Christmas. Babies grow out of this stage so quickly. It's neat to have a permanent reminder of when they were so tiny.

Illustration Friday - Peace

To me, there is nothing more peaceful than a sleeping child or animal. Happy holidays!

Two Dogs and An Adorable Baby

Tis' the season to be jolly and gushing. Especially when I have the privilege of drawing cute babies and canines. With the holiday season approaching, my clients have begun opening their gifts. This means that I can begin posting their portraits for their relatives and friends to enjoy on the web (with the client's permission, of course).

The holiday portrait above features an adorable baby named Colin and two, friendly labs, Belle and Truffle. I love that his shirt says "Little Devil". Aren't baby outfits cute? This particular sweatshirt also has tiny horns on the hood, but they were not visible in the photo. It's ok, though. Colin is far from devil status.

I hope that you enjoy the first holiday portrait. There are more to come. Stay tuned for more updates! Happy holidays!

The Case Of The Missing Phone

My cell phone has gone missing! This may not seem like a big deal, but I use my cell phone as my business phone. This way, I can speak with clients if they call while I am out of the house. I am working on recharging a previous phone with the same phone number. Just thought I would put the word out there, in case any clients were trying to reach me on my business line. It may be a few days before my business line is up and running again.

I'm Entering The Art Show At The Dog Show!

Many of you have heard of the AKC, or the American Kennel Club. This is a national organization for purebred dogs. They hold dog shows every year, many of which are shown on tv (including the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show). What many people don't know is that the AKC also holds a nation-wide competition for dog art. It's called the Art Show At The Dog Show. Top artists compete every year for the grand prize - permanent exhibition at the AKC Museum of the Dog.

This year, I'm entering the Art Show At The Dog Show. It's an ambitious gesture, but I think that I am ready. I am entering four pieces - three pastel drawings and one sepia drawing. I am hoping to be accepted into the show with every inch of my soul. A win would be icing on the cake.

So... Wish me luck! Posted above are two of my entered drawings. I should find out in January if I was accepted.

JA Art Auction

This Friday, Junior Achievement of CNY is hosting an art auction. The auction will feature signed prints and memorabilia. It's a great selection of work for a great cause. I am donating an 8 x 10" custom pet portrait to the auction. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Junior Achievement. If you are looking for a pet portrait, this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a portrait with one hundred percent of the proceeds going to a great charity.

Please email me if you are interested in attending the auction. I can send more information about location, times, etc.

Happy holidays!

V is For Vacation

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am back from Florida in one piece. Golden Illustrations is officially open for business after closing while I was enjoying the Florida sun. I haven't posted in ages. Things have been ridiculously busy.

You may have noticed that there are not many new pieces on my website or new postings. This is because I am tackling a long list of Christmas orders, which are not for view until after the holidays. I protect my clients and want holiday gifts to be a surprise for the recipients.

This is a very exciting time. Business is picking up and I am very greatful. I amazed at how my work is developed in a year's time. When I first launched my business, I only offered black and white dog portraits. Now, my business has grown to include sepia and color portraits of people, cats, wildlife, and dogs. It's unreal how things have evolved.

Well, I better return to my current project. Happy holidays to all!!!
